Position Summary
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) at Hooper’s Judge is responsible for supporting the General Manager in all aspects of daily restaurant operations. The AGM serves as a leader, coach, problem solver, and culture ambassador, ensuring that guests receive exceptional hospitality while maintaining operational excellence, financial performance, and a positive work environment.
The AGM must lead by example, uphold the standards of Hooper’s Judge, and be capable of managing the restaurant independently in the absence of the General Manager.
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding new employees.
Train and develop front-of-house staff to Hooper’s Judge service standards.
Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily goals, specials, and expectations.
Coach employees on performance, professionalism, and guest interactions.
Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
Assist with disciplinary actions, documentation, and performance reviews.
Guest Experience
Ensure every guest receives exceptional hospitality and service.
Actively engage with guests throughout service.
Resolve guest concerns, complaints, and service recovery situations professionally.
Monitor dining room flow and adjust staffing or service plans as needed.
Maintain the hospitality standards that define the Hooper’s Judge brand.
Operations Management
Oversee daily opening, shift, and closing procedures.
Ensure cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of all guest-facing and employee areas.
Enforce health, safety, sanitation, and liquor law compliance.
Manage reservations, waitlists, seating, and guest traffic flow.
Monitor service quality, food presentation, and speed of service.
Support special events, private functions, and promotional initiatives.
Financial Accountability
Assist in managing labor costs through effective scheduling and deployment.
Review daily sales reports and operational metrics.
Monitor cash handling procedures and nightly cash-outs.
Support inventory management and ordering processes.
Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
Help achieve sales, labor, beverage, and cost-control goals.
Communication & Collaboration
Serve as a communication bridge between ownership, management, kitchen leadership, and staff.
Work closely with chefs and culinary leadership to ensure smooth service execution.
Communicate company initiatives and operational changes clearly and consistently.
Maintain professionalism when addressing employee concerns and workplace issues.
Specific Duties
The AGM may be expected to:
Open or close the restaurant independently.
Manage floor operations during peak service periods.
Build weekly staff schedules when assigned.
Approve shift swaps and manage call-outs.
Complete nightly manager logs and operational reports.
Assist with inventory counts.
Oversee beverage and supply ordering.
Manage reservation systems and guest databases.
Handle vendor deliveries and service appointments.
Participate in community events and marketing initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
3+ years of restaurant management experience.
5+ years of hospitality experience.
Proven leadership and team-building skills.
Strong knowledge of restaurant operations.
Ability to manage high-volume service environments.
Experience with scheduling, labor management, and cost controls.
Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and peak business periods.
Preferred
Experience in upscale casual dining, gastropubs, or chef-driven concepts.
Knowledge of craft beer, wine, and cocktail programs.
Familiarity with Toast or similar POS systems.
Experience managing private events and large reservations.
Massachusetts TIPS Certification and ServSafe Certification.

Compensation Range
Salary: $60,000–$80,000 annually (based on experience)
